Blackmagic Camera for iOS 3.3 Adds Apple Watch Control and ATEM Studio Integration
Blackmagic Design has released version 3.3 of its Blackmagic Camera app for iOS, adding two headline features: Apple Watch remote control and ATEM camera control integration that turns an iPhone into a functional studio camera.
Apple Watch Companion App
The update introduces a companion app for Apple Watch that lets operators control and monitor Blackmagic Camera remotely from their wrist. From the watch, users can start and stop recording, monitor framing and audio levels, adjust exposure, focus, and LUTs, switch lenses, and control zoom. The use case is straightforward — when an iPhone is rigged in a position that makes direct contact impractical, the watch handles it. Setup requires only installing the companion app via the Watch app on the paired iPhone.
ATEM Camera Control via ProDock
The more substantial addition is ATEM camera control support. When Blackmagic Camera ProDock is connected to an ATEM Mini switcher, video, tally, and camera control all travel over a single HDMI cable. From ATEM Software Control, operators can adjust white balance, ISO, and shutter remotely, trigger recording, and control focus and zoom. A built-in DaVinci primary color corrector enables camera matching and creative grading during live production — beyond what typical camera color balance allows.
For broadcast-style physical lens control, Blackmagic’s optional Focus and Zoom Demands connect to the ProDock via USB-C. The demands can be daisy-chained and offer fine lens control without releasing the tripod handles. Buttons on the demands are user-assignable to other camera functions.
Additional Features in 3.3
- Full screen portrait mode HDMI output
- Front camera portrait and landscape support without rotation for iPhone 17
- ProRes RAW stabilization support on iOS 26.1 and above
- General performance and stability improvements
