GoPro MISSION 1 Series: 8K Cinema in a Pocket-Sized Body
GoPro has announced pricing for the MISSION 1 Series, a line of compact cinema cameras built around a new 50MP 1" sensor and the company’s GP3 processor, claiming the title of world’s smallest and lightest 8K and 4K Open Gate high frame rate camera system.
The flagship MISSION 1 PRO sits at $699.99 MSRP—dropping to $599.99 for existing GoPro subscribers—and delivers 8K60, 4K240, and 1080p960 in 16:9, with 8K30 and 4K120 in Open Gate 4:3. The non-PRO MISSION 1 caps out at 4K120 Open Gate and retails for $599.99 MSRP ($499.99 for subscribers), sharing the same sensor and processor as its sibling. Both models are waterproof to 66ft without a housing. Both ship May 28th.
The more interesting entry arrives in Q3 2026: the MISSION 1 PRO ILS, which swaps the fixed lens for a Micro Four Thirds mount at the same $699.99 price point. MFT mount coverage is vast and adapter-friendly, meaning the body instantly inherits a century’s worth of glass. GoPro claims HyperSmooth stabilization functions with any rectilinear prime on the mount—a claim worth testing in practice but significant on paper.
The accessory stack covers professional audio with the $159.99 Wireless Mic System (24-bit/48kHz, 150m range, 6.5hr runtime per transmitter), a Media Mod with eight pickup patterns and micro-HDMI out at $149.99, and the Volta 2 battery grip claiming nine hours of 4K30 at $139.99. ND filters, a protective housing rated to 196ft, and a vertical mount adapter round out the ecosystem.
Reservations open today at GoPro.com with a free Point-and-Shoot Grip bundled for early orders—a $100 accessory, included while supplies last.
The MFT mount version may be the sleeper product of the announcement: a weatherproof, stabilized, sub-$700 body with access to the broadest interchangeable lens ecosystem in mirrorless, at frame rates no mirrorless manufacturer is currently shipping at that price. The format wars just got a new entrant from an unexpected direction.
