Tamron Launches 90mm F/2.8 Macro Lens for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z Mount
Tamron has officially announced the release of the 90mm F/2.8 Di III MACRO VXD (Model F072), a high-performance macro lens compatible with Sony E-mount and Nikon Z mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Set to hit the market on October 24, 2024, this lens marks the 45th anniversary of Tamron’s first 90mm macro lens, building on a storied legacy of optical innovation and beloved bokeh effects. Known as a versatile mid-telephoto 1:1 macro lens, the new model promises an impressive combination of classic features with cutting-edge advancements.
The 90mm F2.8 lens delivers high-resolution image quality with beautifully soft bokeh, made possible through Tamron’s rigorous optical simulations. It features an advanced optical construction of 15 elements in 12 groups, including four Low Dispersion (LD) glass elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and ghosting. This ensures superior image quality, even in challenging backlit conditions, making it suitable for macro, portrait, and various types of photography. Additionally, this new version introduces Tamron’s first-ever 12-blade circular aperture, resulting in stunning circular bokeh and exquisite starburst effects, perfect for creating dramatic macro and landscape shots.
Compact in size at just 126.5mm in length and weighing 630g, the lens is lightweight enough to be easily portable, making it ideal for photographers on the go. Tamron has also designed a unique lens hood with a sliding window for seamless filter adjustments without removing the hood—an innovation sure to appeal to both amateur and professional photographers. The lens further enhances usability with features such as high-speed, precise autofocus, a focus limiter switch, and proprietary software support for function customization.
